More Than Words

As she left, altruistic whispers
massaged my tongue behind tight lips.
I tossed luck over my shoulder,
splashing into a wishing well,
but nothing concealed my shame,
and what I wanted to say.
I thought love was something I said,
but nothing that I did proved the words true.
A hollow echo cut through the silence,
casting lots at the alluring target
of my affection and for the attention
I reasoned with a catalyst,
struck a bargain with a facade,
and embraced the karma that came my way,
which was you in my arms with your name on my lips.
