Swiped Right

The sun retreated under the horizon
as the day’s rays escaped for the evening.
I relaxed on the porch, savoring wine.
What she wore on our first date
was splendid enough to sober a drunken man.
And I didn’t even drink much, but if I did,
I’d pour her a sweet drink with a splash of rum.
What made her swipe right on my profile?
What made her fall in love with me?
I’d take the wheel of a romance that shifted
over the quicksand of life’s seconds that change the clock
hand to minutes over hours of sleeping together
in a bed that we shared in a home we owned.
I’d find it easy to clear my mind.
I’d paint a picture of euphoria over
the skeletons in my heart.
I’d make her eager to decipher me;
I’d play hard to get; even so,
she’d love everything about me.
That’s what’d happen if she loved me,
loved me as she loves me today.
