(Published at The Writers Club)
I blink awake, traveling
the thruway, snaking roads
through the gusts that swirl
with the maple tree leaves.
But my destination rests in her head.
I packed light, left the Bud Light
in the corner of my AA meeting, for the fellas
to sip.
I’ve been sober for the better part of a day.
But unless I pop the question,
proud of me, will she ever be?
