Crinkles in flames
her oval eyes
sent mixed signals.
The bar lights
clash with her
neutral grim grin.
My nerves wired
electric shocks
throughout my brain.
What to say?
Approach or blush
and walk by.
Against what I determined,
I weaved through the crowd
to introduce myself,
but I forgot my tongue.
My mind twisted hello
into a compliment,
You’re the most beautiful
woman on earth.
She patted my shoulder,
cracking a smile,
and told me to relax.
I did.
We talked about everything
and nothing at all.
I’d be lying if I said
this bad idea wasn’t love.

There’s a pleasing rhythm to your starkly dark words. You’re a good poet.
