Snowstorm Spark

Darkness hung thick
as I sat at the kitchen table
over a warm coffee.
The snowstorm cut the electricity,
and the eccentric grim line along
my lips as I spoke
to the evergreen candle
that flickered before me
had curled into a frown.
I argued over her leaving
and hoped I had no fault.
I refused to embrace
the blame I’d placed at her feet.
I rehashed our dates until
the world swept the ground
right from under me.
I sipped the bitter coffee,
cooled from my tears of misery.
I lost fights with cat naps
and caught a thief in my sleep
while dreaming of her
professing her undying love.
she tapped me on the shoulder,
asking me if I’d like to come over.
