She was clamorous when
screaming in the mirror,
but I shrieked at the deafening
fear in her selfish silence.
I lost the face I had saved
driving down the 401
with the windows down,
the wind whipped through my hair
like her words lost track
of the secrets on the tip
of her tongue, guiding me through
a Temecula sunrise before she rises,
I returned to her bed
as though I’d never left home.
