Say It To My Face

I measure life by critics
as time ticks along
a crooked skyline
backbiters confess
their hidden sins
while dancing in their pain.
I lose the battle over reality,
and what’s costing me memories
reminds me of you.
By kicking me to the curb,
life has taught me
to never back down
from this sentiment
of being able to say it;
say it to your face;
to say it as I mean it.
The only thing changing
is who I am.
The ambition of apathy
leads to the graveyard
of the lies we live
in between vivid dreams
some of which I’d believed.
I said it as though I meant it to myself.
