Beth shouldn’t leave that rock unturned.
It just might save her life.
I pass the time staring at a clock,
a clock that never removes my regrets
through the hour’s change.
I retreated from inside Beth’s head
gone with a woman I’d known
only in her bed.
Beth complains, but she’ll never
change her ways.
Failure in loneliness is life’s worst enemy.
I’m engaged in rearranging
everything she thought about me.
I’m not half as bad
as she makes me out to be.
I’ve shed my skin and died within,
rising from the ashes of my sin.
Beth is ready to self-destruct
over the bridges burned by her
sometimes in this lifetime.
She is burning up on a cold bed,
shaking memories of us,
breaking a promise that she promised
herself, removing a rock in the garden
for my new phone number,
calling me to crawl back to her.
A heavy burden to bear if I dare.
