Beth slips through my window. We step over strung clothes on a zigzagged sidewalk that steers us beyond visions of despair. We squandered pretentious intentions. By kissing and reciting love poetry to one another, we were able to avert a potential dagger to the heart from either of us. But wherever I look, I find her nowhere. I inhale air alone in this smoggy room. The wall clock hasn’t budged in days, and my phone hasn’t rung in minutes, including ten days, so I’ll persist in our mess until I’m rid of Beth.
