Endless Forgiveness

Like a friend
who disregards
arbitrary rules,
Nancy went away,
hoping I’d stay.
I left before she
sobered up.
The substance Nancy
lacked invades
her personal space,
slipping through cracks
in locked doors.
We faced each other
at the end of our ropes.
A tear of forgiveness reached
Nancy’s lips, knowing no limits
to my second chances.
