First Love

She phoned me
from the driveway,
sitting in her
car as rain
slapped the windshield;
she shrieked insecurities
over my infidelities.
We withdrew hurtful
words to knots,
knotting to nothing
what we’d been
saying over lies.
I feel tears
in her voice.
The desperation dripped
from her words.
It’s me who’s
never known love.
Only when she
showed me forgiveness
did I love.
