It’s a house on the hill
that we can’t afford to build.
My lips of misery shout
through the skeletons rattling
warning signs in my closet.
I sealed my heart
with a ball and chain of what’s next.
She says it’s love, but it’s more the idea
that starved her secret affair with seclusion.
The moment she realizes
she’s enamored with affection
and not in love with me;
I’ll be tipsy, savoring love through a hose.
Life plays tricks on time
when all I really want is to feel something
real. A home with her and me alone.
