Running from an Angel

Running from an angel,
who corners my tracks
by checking my texts.
She inhales my aura as though
my corpse had decayed days ago.
I scaled barricades and inched
under electric fences
only to end up lifting my gaze
to see her puffy rhinestone eyes,
and streaming mascara down either cheek.
Her gaze mirrored my shame.
I swallowed hard, returned to my feet,
and dusted my jeans.
Drained from the strength
I don’t have.
I close the distance between
what I’d been running from
and place a priceless kiss on her lips,
washing the frown
from her face.
I’m scared to death
that shattered my walls,
and fell in love with an angel.
