When I knew it was Love

A dream-like state caresses
the part of me that distinguishes
the authentic person I see
when you shoot me a sultry gaze,
tucking your long, dark bangs back behind your ear.
A dream or curse, which I didn’t know.
A numbness combed my nerves
as I stumbled over inarticulate words.
My thoughts disappeared through a soft breath
in an autumn downtown walkway.
We ate and strolled with a coffee after.
You guided me into loving you like a prayer
answers years later.
My fingers trembled when you reached for my hand,
warming my touch with the embrace of your lust.
