A frustration I didn’t know existed
escaped as a shriek between my lips
before shivers crawled the length of my spine
and startled my misery into secrecy.
I struggled with my downcast gaze
in the home of a bedroom meant for two.
But she’d left to stay with him again.
The evening darkness extinguished warm rays,
and a bulb went out in the light;
I couldn’t reach with a broken spirit.
The only light I’ll see is in the eyes of a fling.
Morning pokes through shadows,
and my eyes open to a sheet around her nude body.
Too plastered to know,
we took each other home.
