Insecurities Drowned

She hated overhearing them gossiping about her in crowded,
dark hallways.
She never asks why she should believe a goddamn word they say.
People won’t stop whispering about her,
so she never made them.
She learned to exchange respect with people who love her.
I told her to be her best by being her worst critic.
She’s her biggest advocate.
And she’ll defend herself by breathing fire.
She drowned her insecurities in a river of acid.
And now, here she is with me.
