Home Alone

I ignored the warning signs.
I didn’t want to see
what’d become of me if love
reared its unforgiving head in my heart,
making me see her the way she wanted
me to.
With every flippant word she said,
I should have moved out.
Then I did.
Moved out, I did.
I said I’d live alone instead,
but she followed me through the whisper
of a friend.
We’d end up together.
I thought it’d be forever.
Now I can’t let go,
but she’s not coming home.
